Permits

May 11, 2006

Certain home improvements require building permits. These improvements would include garages, additions, or fences. To avoid problems or unnecessary expense, be sure to have the permit when required. The fence permits are issued by Woodlawn Park; building permits are controlled by Metro-Louisville Inspections, Permits & Licenses (IPL). However, while the IPL controls the permits, they require an approval of the plans from Woodlawn Park prior to issuing one.

It may speed the issuance of a building permit if you call Councilperson Doug Watson, before you submit it to Louisville Metro. Fence Permits...Doug Watson..

Building Permits..IPL ..574-3321 Swimming Pools & Decks A permit may now required by Metro-Louisville Ordinance for the construction and installation of swimming pools either below or above ground. Be sure to contact the city for permit details before planning a pool in your yard. All deck construction now requires a permit. The same requirements as a room addition apply. Contact the city before starting construction.

Garages City Ordinance requires all exposed surfaces of garages except vinyl and brick to be painted after a reasonable time for curing. Normally three months for wood and one year for cement blocks is long enough. Each request for permit signed by the property owner has agreed to do this; however, some garages still remain unpainted .
